Agar Agar Powder (50g)
Agar Agar is a vegetarian gelatin substitute coming from red algae, that has been traditionally used in dairy free and vegan recipes as a thickening agent in making jams, jellies, puddings and sauces. Agar Agar is flavourless to taste.
Cooking with Agar Agar:
The general rule of thumb for agar agar is to use 1 teaspoon to thicken 1 cup of liquid.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of agar agar powder with 4 tablespoons of water. Bring it to the boil over a medium heat and then allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Mix the agar agar and water mix with rest of your ingredients. Put aside to set. As the ingredients cool, the agar agar will set.
Important: Be careful not to add your agar agar to cold or cool foods as it can set too quickly.
