Chai Tea (200g)
Revered in Eastern cultures for many thousands of years, Chai is a combination of black tea and warming spices that makes for a delicious flavoured tea, warm to the belly (and heart).
The folklore surrounding Chai dates back to between 5000 and 9000 years ago in an ancient royal court – said to be either in India or Siam. Legend has it that the reigning king created the recipe as a healing Ayurvedic drink and that throughout the earlier years, it was prepared via a diverse range of methods and contained an equally diverse array of spices depending on what was needed. Between regions the recipes varied and it was served both hot and cold as a remedy for minor ailments.
Interesting to note that the traditional Chai of India didn’t contain any black tea.
Our personal recommendation with this blend is to add a little fresh ginger to the pot – delicious!
This chai mix is a stimulating to the digestive tract and will warm the body by increasing circulation. Cloves are known for their anti-microbial properties and they can act as a mild local analgesic for aching teeth and a sore throat. Cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves and cardamom work together to calm and sooth the digestive tract. Bay leaves can also stimulate weak digestion and can improve a poor appetite.
Formosan tea, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, bay leaves.
