Similar to the sultana, our vine grown currants are slightly sweeter with a delicious almost berry like flavour. Great eaten on their own, or added to a homemade trail mix in combination with nuts and seeds. Currants are also a welcome addition to fried rice or quinoa dishes.
Currants pack a lot into their small size having good levels of potassium, iron, B6, beneficial digestive fibre and healthy carbohydrates for energy. This makes them great for blood pressure, muscular contractions and the nervous system. They also contain vitamin c and magnesium for the immune system and for the liver detoxification system and being organic, they have the added benefit of being chemical free.
In the Kitchen
With their sweet flavour and soft chewy texture, they make a great natural sweetener for breakfast cereals or on their own to satisfy any sweet cravings. They go very well in muffins, cakes, homemade muesli bars and slices.
