Oat groats (or whole oats) are the most intact form of oats with only the outer inedible husk having been removed. They are a very good source of fiber, especially beta-glucan, and are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants making them a good choice for a hearty breakfast porridge. Oat groats take slightly longer to cook then regular rolled oats and have a more chewy consistency that many people love.

Traditionally eaten as a breakfast porridge, oat groats are best soaked overnight, then cooked for 20-25 minutes on simmer. Try adding a sprinkle of fresh ground cinnamon, diced green apple or pear, a medjool date (chopped), with a splash of milk and drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
