Organic White Quinoa
Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah) is an ancient grain native to the Andes mountains in South America where it has been a staple food source for thousands of years. Today it is one of our most popular gluten free grains and can be used in much the same way as rice, being a great side complement to any main dish. White quinoa has a light fluffy consistency and delicious nutty flavour and has many health benefits to offer including being high in protein and one of the our few plant foods that contains all nine essential amino acids.
White quinoa is also high in magnesium (one of our super minerals), iron, potassium & calcium as well as Vitamin E, b-vitamins and other beneficial antioxidants.
White quinoa is a super tasty addition to any soup or salad. We love using quinoa in salads throughout spring and summer and it makes an excellent Gluten Free Tabbouleh.
For a simple & cleansing dish of white quinoa to serve as a side accompaniment try White Quinoa with Sage.
Simply cook your quinoa until fluffy – 1 cup of quinoa (unsoaked) to 1 1/5 cups water, bring to the boil and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until fluffy. Once cooked at 3 tablespoons of olive oil and a 1 tablespoon diced fresh sage leaves and stir through. You can also use curly parsley or mint as an alternative to sage.
