Our TVP mince is made from the defatted soy meal of 100% non-GMO soybeans. TVP stands for Textured Vegetable Protein that comes in the form of granules making a fantastic quick Vegan meat substitute for a multitude of dishes including Bolognese, Lasagna or Moussaka. It is high in protein, fibre and iron and free of cholesterol and fat. It has a chewy consistency similar to meat and takes on the flavour of whatever dish you are cooking.
In the Kitchen:
As mentioned above TVP can be used to replace any meat meal such a mince for bolognaise. It is typically used as a vegetarian and vegan supplement for mince and is also great for pasta sauces, tacos, for making your own veggie burgers, meat loaf or soy meat balls.
Facts about TVP:
Because it is a dehydrated product, it needs to be reconstituted in hot water for about 10-15 minutes for more before being ready to eat. Most recipes that use TVP mince will include this step.
TVP mince was invented by Archer Daniels Midland Company in the 1960’s.
TVP is also used as a meat extender in hospitals, prisons and on school programs.
